Was President Kennedy the best president ever? Probably not. But I remember as an 8 year old boy the day he was assassinated and the love the country felt towards him.
As I was thinking about all of the challenging events occurring in our country today, I thought about this man. I was a month shy of 8 years old when he was assassinated. That was almost 57 years ago and I remember it very well. The country mourned as one. It was as if a family member had suddenly and unexpectedly died in the most brutal way. We all lost a dad, a brother, a son and a friend. And the days that followed that horrific day were incredibly emotional. Even as an 8 year old boy I felt the same profound sadness at the loss of this man as the rest of the country. It was one of the saddest days in my time on this planet. Over the span of 18 hours, 250,000 people, some waiting for as long as 10 hours personally paid their respects as his body lay in state in the Capitol. This man had grace and was, in my opinion, the most “presidential” president in our history.
Oh how I wish we had someone as “presidential.”
